Google is the world's most popular search engine and is currently the most popular site in the Internet.[1]

Google was launched in 1998 by Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page, two doctoral students at Stanford University in California. The name of the site is a play on the word "googol",[2] a very large number. The domain name google.com was registered on September 15, 1997. [3]
