This page refers to Joseph the son of Jacob. For other uses see Joseph (Disambiguation).
Joseph was a son of Jacob who was sold into slavery by his brothers. He went to Egypt and rose to a level just below Pharoah in prominence. When a drought brought his brothers calling from Canaan for grain, Joseph arranged an elaborate scheme to reunite his family. Joseph's descendents make up two of the twelve tribes of Israel, Ephraim and Menassah.
