The United States Army (also US Army, Army, USA) is a branch of the US military. It is one of seven uniformed services and one of five armed services. The mission of the Army is," ...to provide necessary forces and capabilities to the Combatant Commanders in support of the National Security and Defense Strategies."[1] The oldest of all the American services, the US Army was created on June 14, 1775 from the Continental Army during the American Revolution. As of FY07, the Army is composed of 549,153 active duty personnel, 189,000 reservists, and approximately 352,000 National Guardsmen with an approximate total troop strength of 1,090,153.[2]
